Today I created 2 more modules for my modular building set. These were the smaller windows above the big ones and the ledges at the top which would connect to the roof. I also played with putting them all together to see how they look and I'm really happy with it so far. I intend to finish the high poly modules soon and will post them as I go.

Modular Building - Window section and Corner column
Today I started working my way through a tutorial from the book Maya Studio Projects: Game Environments and Props on modular buildings. I plan to work my way through their example and then either complete a different tutorial or redo it but with my own designs instead of following theirs. So far it's been a lot of fun.

Final butterfly design
So this is final design of the butterfly sword. I'm happy with how it's come out. It was my 2nd design of the butterfly sword on my sheet of variations, featuring a larger hilt with more wings on it. I made a few changes to the design however. People pointed out how it could be hard to hold and recommended several changes to the handle area. I went and looked at 1 and 1/2 handed swords and based the sizes of things off of that. I extended the blade slightly and the handle by about 50% nearly. The sword sits between a 1 handed and 2 handed sword but I like the design so I don't feel the need to change it (after all some people did use these). Next I will work on colour schemes and plan to do 3 at least.

Butterfly sword development
So I developed my butterfly sword from my original board with 3 variants of hilts and blades. Hilt wise I like all 3 yet I think the 2nd one is quite nice and could be 3D modeled easily enough whilst the 3rd is very extravagant and would be quite a royal sword. Blade wise I'm not so fond of all my designs. I like my original design a lot. The 2nd is my least favourite and the 4th, whilst nice, doesn't really fit the theme too well so I doubt I will use either of these blades. The 3rd one is quite nice but I would add some more details to it if I used it. Again I'm going to be getting some critiques on the work so I'll move it forward then. I may also do some work with the ram blade later as I think it could look great but I may not.

Blog Intro - Sword Design
So I've set up this little blog just to upload any extra work I do on my own such as my first little project which is designing and modelling a sword. I decided that I wanted to try some kind of stylized textures/3D modelling and so I decided to design a sword. I just worked from animals and nature for these initial designs and, after critique from friends, I plan to take one (or possibly two if I'm still undecided) forward, develop it more with colour and detail and then start to model it. From these designs I think I can safely say that I don't want to create the claw spear or the tusk sword as I just don't like the designs that much, the spear is a little boring and the tusk hilt looks like it should be on a gun. I'm undecided between the other 3 though and will post back later once I've done some more stuff.
